Riad Sakkan

Sakkan was a really nice Riad, but a few small things could make it perfect. First off the service was top notch - the staff was AMAZING. Really appreciated everything they did for us during our stay. The location in the Medina was fantastic as well. Couldn’t have picked a better spot. The room was nice, but you could hear so much surround sound that it was a bit difficult to sleep at times. I understand part of this is due to it being an old building, but I do think there are ways to minimize the sound level of the doorbell, rooftop and even bathroom from within the room. Perhaps even providing earplugs would be a nice touch. There were also a lot of flies on the rooftop - I understand that is a lot of Marrakesh, but perhaps there are ways to attract them towards one specific area of the rooftop, to help reduce their reach throughout. Overall we had a really good experience, but small improvements could be made to make it the best.

This Riad is everything you wish and hope for. It is a peaceful, luxurious hotel in the hectic but amazing medina. The location is excellent! A heavenly, relaxing scent fills the palace and the sound of a fountain on the courtyard + some cute singing birds complete this moroccon fairytale. The breakfast is incredible and the staff is warm and welcoming. You will love the rooftop! Enjoy your trip! (I'm already jealous)

The Riad is breathtakingly beautiful! Everything from the rooftop, to the lounge area and the best part - the pool! During hot summer days it’s an amazing place to just hang and relax. The rooms however lacked privacy. Our main door was made of wood and you couldn’t close it properly, which meant that it always had an open crack of 1-2 centimeters. This compromised the sound isolation, you could hear conversations from the pool to the rooftop. The amenities itself was also a bit old, our shower head fell off in the middle of a shower and the one it was replace with had very bad water stream. The people however was lovely, always happy with a great service mentality! Overall would recommend if you want a beautiful place to hang out in and if you don’t plan to spend too much time in the room.

Stylish sophisticated with friendly and helpful staff and managment in a perfect location in the medina . I can not rate this rihad highly enough . You will not be dissapointed .

What a wonderful experience! It's strange to say, but this Riad Sakkan was the highlight of our visit to Marrakech. No Jemaa el Fna square or palace could compare. There's such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere here. The rooms aren't very large, but they're very comfortable. The pool is large enough to cool off on hot days. I find that quite different from those tiny pools often found in riads. The rooftop terrace is large, beautiful, and offers plenty of space to relax or sit at the bar. In the morning, the delicious breakfast, including a croissant and pain aux chocolat, is served here. We had dinner here once on the day of our arrival, and we should have eaten every night: carpaccio, tuna tartare, filet puree… Beautifully presented, very fresh, and above all, delicious. Before our visit, we also had excellent contact with Veerle, the owner, whom we could call when we arrived in Marrakech to arrange a pick-up. Ismael is a really nice guy at the restaurant. He knows a lot about Morocco, so feel free to let him inspire you. We enjoyed our stay here. Thank you.

Must have touched a nerve! Only unprofessional management will resort to personal insults in response to a client feedback. The hotel is tired, overhyped and overpriced. With the abundance of options in Marrakesh my advice would be to stay elsewhere. Sakkan is just like any other riad, but with some pictures of naked models on its walls, for which they supposedly want to charge double. We regret spending our holiday there, and needless to say will never recommend. Original review below: - - - This is a place with certain social following famous for its picture-perfect common areas. Despite all the hype, I’m afraid our experience was far from good considering the price paid. The hotel is actually quite tired, not terribly clean, and truthfully pretty basic. We stayed for a week which is a lot longer than average. We saw plenty of guests checking in for a night just to take a picture and leave. The room we booked was called ‘Luxury’ but there was nothing luxury about it. I stayed in £50-a-night Premier Inns that had more in-room facilities. It was tiny, bedside aisles were narrower than a Ryanair seat, toilet had zero privacy, wall paint was chipped, shower was leaking, sink was blocked and there was literally no furniture except a bed, a bench and one armchair, not even a table (a tiny stool instead). No vanity kit, drink facilities, tv, slippers, etc… there was nowhere to spend time unless you’re in bed. As other guests said, you won’t be able to sleep there without earplugs. The room was poorly cleaned, the toilet floor was never mopped during the entirety of our week-long stay and the rug collected all the dirt of Marrakesh. I had to ask for better cleaning a number of times, and I do respect that the manager/staff did try, but I’m afraid the standards just aren’t there. I saw a cleaner coming in to ‘brush’ the rug with the same broom she was using on the floor in common areas. For the first 2 days we had no hot water, at best it was body temperature. The staff worked on fixing it, but again, if you want to charge €200+ per night get a second boiler installed. Food was very expensive and the few things we tried just weren’t worth the price. I had a Caesar salad with supermarket chicken nuggets for something like €16. Bar charges €5 for a mug-sized pot of mint tea (we paid less that €2 in all other restaurants), and the drinks menu besides cocktails was pretty poor. The staff were lovely and did try hard, but overall we didn’t really enjoy it and it felt like for the money we’ve spent this could have been a way better holiday elsewhere. Seems to be a greedy overseas management problem.
