What people mention
Hamza was very available and helpful, the room was spacious but basic. Everything was clean. The price reflected the unpretentious service. Traveling as a family, we booked the two downstairs rooms, which allowed us to enjoy the entire floor as we pleased. One minor drawback: the riad is a little difficult to find due to the lack of a sign.
One star is already too much… We didn't even manage to spend the night in the accommodation. The place is really not visible from the outside; there's no sign indicating the property. So we rang the doorbell that a man who works next door pointed out to us, and a woman (the chambermaid) came to open the door. We had a lot of trouble understanding each other because she didn't speak French, English, or Arabic… It was like talking to a brick wall… The woman didn't even know we were coming and asked us to pay even though we had already paid through Booking.com. And besides, there's no reception. The woman showed us to the room, which was dirty and offered no privacy. In fact, all our conversations could be overheard. The floor was dirty, and the bathroom was also dirty (photos available). The bed was extremely uncomfortable. I can't imagine the back pain we would have had when we woke up if we had stayed there. We felt uneasy and unsafe. So we decided to leave the accommodation 10 minutes after arriving… In short, RUN AWAY!
In this case, even 1 star is too much. When we arrived, after knocking for a long time, the door was opened by a lady dressed in a bathrobe who only spoke French and acted very haughty. It smelled musty and didn't look appealing for our family to stay in. I asked her to call Hamza, the owner, but she refused and we were simply laughed at. I got angry and said we were leaving, and then she waved us away too. I have tried to contact the owner in various ways, but there is no response to anything anymore, whether via the app, email, or Booking.com. It is a real shame, because there you are with your family.
The worst accommodation we stayed in during our 3-week road trip! Even one star is too much for this place! I don't even know where to begin... First of all, it was difficult to find, as there wasn't even a sign on the door. Even a name written on a piece of paper would have been helpful. The hosts never showed up again after check-in and didn't respond to messages about canceling. 1. The entire house is damp, so much so that you can smell the dampness and feel it on your skin. It was especially bad the day we checked in. It was almost impossible to breathe properly. This was extreme in the room and not much better in the "lobby." Mold was visible in some places, such as on the pillow and the bathroom mirror. 2. We couldn't lock our front door with the key. This meant that our clothes and toiletries were easily accessible while we were out. This didn't seem to bother the hosts much, as they didn't even mention it at check-in. The front door could only be locked from the inside with a small latch, which is ridiculous for such a large wooden door! The bathroom door also wouldn't close because it was so warped. 3. Our duvet cover was missing and smelled musty. 4. There were stains (including bloodstains!) on the mirror by the bed. 5. The bathroom was constantly half-flooded because a hose was leaking. The shower wasn't cleaned properly (if at all). We found the previous guest's razor in it. Besides that, the drain was clogged, so the water couldn't drain properly. 6. There were tiny ants crawling all over the room, including the wardrobe. 7. Oh, and the highlight: we had a visit from a cockroach. So, all in all, this accommodation is absolutely not recommended. Zero, nada, niente, simply NO. Not even if you were paid for an overnight stay! The only positives: relatively stable Wi-Fi and the location, but honestly: please find something decent for a few euros and a few meters further! It's an absolute mystery to me how this dump managed to get a rating above 2 stars!
This experience was a disaster: no directions, no signs, luckily the shops were still open and gave us information. We were greeted by a very unpresentable person (fleece dressing gown; headscarf, as if disturbed in their sleep), unpleasant, who spoke neither French, nor English, nor Moroccan Arabic, nor Spanish. Unprecedented in tourism, yet we had a great experience of "back-to-basics" travel. We had barely entered when the person handed us the phone, and her boss claimed he had just stepped out, apologized, and asked us to pay 360 MDA (36€) in tourist tax. We smelled damp, but at first glance, the place seemed clean and charming. We gave the 360 MDA tourist tax to the woman, who gave us the keys to our room where we left our belongings and went out for dinner. Upon returning to the room, the musty smell mixed with cat urine was unbearable. Everything was damp in this riad; we were alone, and the woman designated as a maid was locked upstairs. We discovered humidity sensors hidden everywhere (behind the bed, the curtains, behind the TV stand), and they were saturated; the tablecloth was The place was filthy; the armrests of the chairs positioned for the photos were actually broken, giving way at the slightest touch. The paint was cracked and blistered everywhere, the fruit in the fridge was moldy, and stagnant water was pooling at the bottom. The shower curtain was drenched in grime. It was impossible for us to sleep here, especially with a child. It was 11 p.m. when I called the owner to inform him of the situation and our decision to leave. He was unreachable. We then called the maid and asked her to refund the tourist tax. After much insistence, she finally came down. She initially suggested spraying perfume and emptying the water from the humidity sensors, but when we stood our ground, she pretended to back down, went back upstairs, and locked herself in. It was impossible to communicate with her to find a solution. We then decided to leave in the middle of the night, with an 8-year-old child exhausted from a long day. travel. We were reimbursed by the agency through which we made the reservation, which doesn't change the fact that this was a very unpleasant experience. Don't trust the positive reviews and steer clear. It's not at all good value for money. I hope this review will prevent other travelers from having a bad experience and will make the owner realize that they cannot offer this type of property to tourists.
This riad doesn't even deserve one star. Here are the reasons: 1. There's no sign indicating where the riad is, and we had to search for it for ages, probably because it's not registered. 2. The staff is terrible. We didn't even see the owner; only a maid opened the door for us, and we never saw her again. There was no atmosphere, no ambiance, and the riad was incredibly cold. We had to wait 20 minutes before anyone even opened the door for us. 3. The worst part for me: the musty smell. It was so moldy, and the smell in the room was so bad that it made me feel sick. That's definitely not hygienic and not healthy for your lungs! 4. The shower was clogged and flooded, and we had to wait forever for help to clean the bathroom. 5. The price is far too high for what you get. 6. The shower curtain was completely covered in mold. The smell was truly the worst part. The Wi-Fi works great, and the location is good.
Excellent location within the medina, just steps from the kasbah. Comfortable, basic. The owner, Hamza, is helpful and friendly. Very good.
Phew...very humid....I wouldn't go back.
